Professional Driving Qualifications and How to Get Them

The first thing that you need to consider is to get the correct license for the vehicle category that you are looking to get employment in. For full information regarding vehicle license categories visit gov.uk – Vehicle License Categories

How to add a vehicle category to your drivers license

If you hold a full UK category B car driving licence, it could be possible for you to apply for provisional entitlements in a higher category.

There can also be some circumstances that can upgrade a lower category on your licence if you pass a higher category driving test.

This requires staging and provisional entitlement to be obtained for the higher category prior to taking the necessary tests to apply for higher category license.

To find out more about staging and the higher category tests go here.

The Driver Certificate of Professional Competence. Or (CPC)

What is CPC?

CPC is a set of standards established by the European Union to ensure professional drivers are competent and proficient in their roles.

Who needs a CPC certificate?

If you drive any of the following vehicles professionally as your main occupation then you must hold a current CPC license.

  • Heavy or Large Goods Vehicles
  • PCV pr PSV Vehicles
